Moving the City for Good: Final Report
Over the last eighteen months Go-Ahead has engaged with a diverse range of stakeholders through our Moving the City for Good programme, exploring challenges facing transport and how they relate to wider changes in society. Through roundtables in London on themes such as smart cities, air quality and regulatory reform, and a larger event in Oxford aimed at practical solutions, we brought together people and ideas to form new approaches.
This new report features an interview with two former Transport Ministers, Steve Norris and Norman Baker, reflecting on their time in office and what they might do differently if they could do it again. It also provides new material on urban mobility, transport innovation and social inclusion, as well as summarising the outcomes of the events we held. Some of the views expressed may differ from those we hold at Go-Ahead, but this reflects the opportunity the programme provided for a broad ranging debate.
In recent months Go-Ahead has continued to make progress in addressing some of the issues and aspirations raised during Moving the City for Good. They are further demonstrating their commitment to improving air quality by trialling the UK’s first air filtering bus, which cleans the air as it travels through Southampton. Earlier this month they published a study undertaken with Run Friendly and the University of Leeds looking at how to improve public health by encouraging people to walk or cycle for the first/last mile of their commute. They continue to work with logistics partners on how we can use our depots and vehicles to reduce congestion and improve air quality, and hope to make an announcement about this soon.
We hope you enjoy the report, and would welcome any feedback.
