Our Future Voice Now
“Watch out, young people. Work is about to get a whole lot worse”
These words were spoken by author and former Twitter VP Bruce Daisley, during one of the first Jericho Conversation webinars earlier in the summer.
They resonated throughout the Conversations series and, given the recent exams fiasco, are especially poignant now.
The inaugural series of Conversations reached over a thousand members within the Jericho community and enjoyed remarkable impact among influencer media.
A number of contributors noted that young people especially would be the longer-term “victims” of the COVID crisis – from education and skills deficits to the costs of shelter and constraints on future employment opportunities.
With the support of Barclays and its Life Skills initiative, we are beginning work on the Our Future Voice Now programme – an opportunity to give platform and voice to young people (aged 16-24) on key societal challenges (post-COVID); critique the outputs from the initial Conversations; build a library of qualitative insights, and help shape policy recommendations for future action.
Co-designed by the young people themselves, the "Inter-Generational Working Group" will bring together a mix of expert contributors and youth representatives to work through issues, develop new ideas and share learnings, wisdom and experience while amplifying the younger voices.
We will begin by investigating Jobs, Skills & Employment and Mental Health & Wellbeing as first priorities.
